Pi uses local pi. Auth and models stay in Pi’s own directory (usually ~/.pi/). Open Settings → Provider management → CLI and confirm PI CLI shows Installed. The plugin does not install it for you, and it does not edit auth.json. In a system terminal, run pi /login or add a key from the Pi docs. CLI detection page

Docs: https://pi.dev/ After install, go back to the CLI page and click Detect again. If the command is not found, set PI_BIN / PI_PATH / PI_CLI_PATH, or add ~/.pi/bin to the system PATH.

Capability differences

Compared with Claude Code:
  • No plan mode
  • MCP / Skills / some Settings pages are centered on Claude Code
  • Stop ends the pi child process
  • History is isolated by runtime
  • Prompt enhancer and Commit AI can use a one-shot CLI question
